Cannot render partial in layout

I have revision 88 (version 3.2.1) of the plugin installed. In views/layouts/application.haml I call:
render :partial => ‘layouts/menu’
And I get this error:
No rhtml, rxml, rjs or delegate template found for ajax_scaffold/_menu
